Dev Log #1 — Responses
Hello!
It's only been a little over a week since Sweet as Magic has been released, and we've already received such a warm response! In our first dev log, we'll summarize the feedback we've been receiving, as well as express our plans for the game.
This dev log will contain spoilers from the demo, so please proceed with caution!
- Story: Players have expressed their enjoyment of the characters, story, setting, and writing style, as well as the unexpected twists we've layered in the story. Players also mentioned that the story and characters were unique, and that the worldbuilding was established in a way that was immersive and moved the narrative along. The most popular scenes were the meeting with Ramiel, the fight scenes with the goblins, and the chat with Arjana.
- Characters: Our shy incubus, Ramiel, is the most popular character. Zo and Chayton were also well-liked characters. The least-liked character is Chayton, followed by the goblins and Lucio. The most common reason for liking Ramiel was his unexpectedly shy personality. Those who chose Chayton as their least favorite was due to his first impression, while those who chose Lucio as their least favorite cited that it was mostly due to being unable to get a good feel for his character.
- Art: Players expressed lots of love for the character art, which was made by the talented Remnantation! The art was described as "beautiful" and "absolutely breathtaking," and allowing each character to have distinct features. A few players suggested for more sprites and CG art, which will be incorporated into future updates for the game.
- Improvements: There were a variety of suggestions for improvements, ranging from the story to the game mechanics. The most common theme among improvements were to add more character art and to give more depth to the characters, both of which will be addressed in future updates and the full game.
Updated Demo: An updated build of the demo will be released in the next coming months. The update will include improvements to the script and GUI, as well as the overall gameplay experience.
Additional Features: Sweet as Magic's mini game is currently in development and will involve cooking and drink-mixing. There will also be a Magical Species Glossary for reference about the various species that make up Rozalia City.
Art: We will be working with our character artist to add more art to the game, so look forward to additional sprites, CGs, and more!
Release Date: We project the release of the game will be in Spring 2020, though there's a possibility the date will change depending on our development process. The game will be sold for $4.99, and the demo (and all updates to it) will remain free to play!

Personal, after meeting each of the men in the demo, I love and am interested in them all.
Ramiel of course is adorable and I want to know his character more.
Lucio actually charmed me with his caring big brother side (which I really thought I'd like him the least.)
Arjana didn't grab my interest at first, but I totally fell for him as they talked about his daughter. A teddy bear with a heart. <3
Chayton I liked the design of the least, but I totally kinda can get behind the snarky almost rival like attitude between him and Ryuu. I'd be interested in knowing him more.
Basically, I went into the demo expecting to only be interested in Ramiel, and came out wanting to get to know all the boys. And Zo. God, Zo kinda stole my heart to. xD I usually am the type to have like one canon pairing and struggle to play other routes, but all the boys seem like they'll be a joy. (and no creepy loli child-type character! yay!)
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We are so happy to hear that you are interested in all of the love interests and greatly appreciate your comments on each of them. It is very helpful to see every player's thoughts on the characters and story.
Each character has a few mysteries waiting to be revealed in their routes, so please look forward to that! And Zo is quite popular with everyone, so rest assured there will be plenty more of him in the full game!
Yeah, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the best friend characters. And Zo...I just want to hug him when he looks all sad. I'm not usually for zombie characters, but you guys really nailed it there. =)
It is a bit contradictory that Chayton is both a well-liked character and a least-liked character...
But thank you for this dev log! :)
We were surprised too. He was the most disliked character and the second most-liked character at the same time. No problem! Thank you for reading it!
